[Max just shakes her head at the message, but doesn't reply, because she's busy heading to a local cafe, ordering two lattes (one decaf) and a box of cupcakes, before making her way to Nikita's safe house.

The click of her high heels likely announce her arrival, but she knows as well, just to be safe.]

[ Nikki's cleaned off her makeup and changed into dark coloured clothing: but the shirt has printed logo. It was cheap, combined with the style of her hair it makes her look younger than she is. The heels down the corridor are enough of an announcement, but the cameras she's rigged help too. She opens the door for Max with a small, pleased smile. ]

Come in.

[Max hands over the coffee as she sashays in like she owns the place; it's something she does automatically, because it's just how she moves.]

I worry about you, Nikita. Decaf isn't good for the soul.

[janebond]

Duly noted.

[ She's a more muted presence in the room than Max, and she sees no need to disguise how quietly she walks as she gestures towards the couch. ]

How've you been?

[The way Max sits is more calculated than the way she walks. It looks perfectly at ease, but she could move quickly if she has to. Trust isn't that easy.]

Busy. Who'd have thought that fundraising for a legitimate charity would be so exhausting?

[janebond]

[ It isn't, and Nikita only sits after her, looking equally deceptively relaxed. She knows how long it takes to a) her gun, b) the window, and c) how far to jump so she doesn't break a leg. ]

About that. Room for a fashion designer? Anonymous, of course.

I suppose I could shuffle a few things around.

[But her smile says it's a joke.]

Are you looking to help, or is your current employment unsatisfying?

Just pitching in.

[ A shrug. ]

I'll be honest, I have no idea how to be a community organiser.

How about running security for a women's shelter?

[That seems more up Nikita's alley.]

Now you're talking. One of yours?

A plan for one, yes. It's still on the drawing board.

Then sign me up.

[ She sips her coffee idly. ]

Have to keep busy, right?

[thephix]

You don't have to, but I don't think either of us are the type to be idle.

[Like at all. Ever.]

Speaking of idle.

[ She takes another sip of her coffee and then puts it down on the table, stretching. ]

I owed you a demonstration.

[thephix]

Only if you're sure.

[For once, she won't push for information even though she wants it, out of respect for Nikita.]

[janebond]

[ She nods, and crosses her legs. She doesn't have to almost-meditate, she's sure, but it's safer this way to concentrate. Nothing hums or glows or expands, but she's attuned to her body, and knows when the change occurs. ]

All right. Try using your own powers.

[Max watches without doing anything so uncouth as leaning forward or anything, simply keeps her eyes on Nikita as she moves - or, doesn't.

And as soon as she speaks, understanding dawns. Though she still tries to shift, something little, like the color of her nails, but nothing happens.]

I see. That's an incredibly useful power.

[And a dangerous one, if people find out about it.]

Are you blocking the power, or is it... gone?

[She's praying it's the latter. Even if she likes Nikita, Max still needs her power.]

[ She shuts it off immediately once done - there's no need to flaunt it around Max, and then reaches for her coffee mug again. ]

It's just blocked. I have to say, it's... interesting.

[Max tests it just to be sure, watching her nail colour change from the dark red to a pale blue.

Good.]

There are a few like that in my world, and they are considered quite a threat. I doubt you need the warning, but you may want to keep that skill to yourself, if possible.

It seems as though no one has suffered fatal consequences from the nullifying tech, perhaps no one here relies on their power in that way.
